Intersting--my car's at 7 years old ( time flies ) and i've toyed around with getting a new car. What's stopping me is that my car is still "ok" and nothing out there compels me to switch.
1) 9-3 SS. Personally, i think the interior materials are a step down from the old 900 and with the lack of hatch, don't feel compelled to switch. However, handling is better, car is more solid, but i will disagree with people who think it handles as well as a bmw and has the solidity of the other germans.
2) new s40: Can euro-deliver a awd t5 in my config for 28K or a bit less, with airline tickets and other perks thrown in. Some of the design is wonky and it feels like a FWD car, not as fun as the 9-3 but a lot of car for the $. Best seats.
3) 330: handling champ, joy to drive, no brainer if all were the same price.
4) a4: good car, 1.8T underpowered and rattly, wait for the 2.0L. The a3 will be a hatch and looks pretty good.
5) c230coupe: a hatch! Decent power, but not great. Handling only ok. However, very supple ride. The a3 will be a better choice, IMHO.
If i could make a clear choice, i might have one of these by now. But I keep thinking that no matter what i choose, i'll feel let down.
