Mike: have to disagree with your contention regarding the environmental impact of used engine oil. Not only is the vast majority of waste oil now used to heat commercial buildings, but when it comes to ecology and environmental friendliness, we would be far better served by eliminating the 10 -15 MPg gas hogs on our roads and reducing consumptoin as well as pollution than worrying about the relatively small amount of natural resources that get used up by more frequent oil changes. In addition, if you personally had to choose between perhaps spending $300 more during your ownership of a car doing oil changes twice as often as the manufacturer suggested, or spending about $5-6000 out of your own pocket to rebuild your engine that just blew due to oiling related problems, which sounds better to you? I'm all for reducing the environmental impact of cars in general, but believe that our single biggest problem with them right now is the ridiculous level of gas consumption that a majority of the fleet has.
