Based on the statistics page you cited, it would appear that the 9^3 outsells the 9^5 about 7:5, as we would expect. The 9^5 is a great car, though, and I am delighted that it has gained market acceptance, satisfying many SAAB loyalists while at the same time attracting new customers to the marque. Certainly the 9000 never had the broad appeal of the 9^5.
Clearly the market puts a higher premium on the mainstream character of the 9^5 than on the utility of the 5-door configuration. It's kind of funny to see the market embracing big dumb trucks for "sports utility," while it never really accepted the 9000 5-door, which offered plenty of "sports" along with plenty of "utility." Oh well, the customer is always right! I guess that's why the SAAB Aztech is in the pipeline. . .
