I don't understand why the WR's are praised Posted by AdamB [Email] (#3) [Profile/Gallery] (more from AdamB) on Sun, 13 Feb 2005 17:54:26 In Reply to: I run wr's in the winter, but want summer tires, sonett43, Thu, 10 Feb 2005 06:56:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
so much on Saabnet. They've consistently scored amongst the poorest of winter tires in all tests I've read (and the results usually compare well with my own experience with a couple of the tested tires). Is the american version of the Nokian WR just *very* different from the european?
For example the WR was dead last with 2 points in a compare including the following tires in the size 205/55 R16 H:
Top 4:
#1:
Continental WinterContact TS810
with 6 points total. Scored best in both dry, wet, snow and ice. As well as having excellent tread wear and decent comfort.
#2:
Michelin Pilot Alpin A2
with 5 points total. Scored 2nd in dry and fine in other categories. Poor comfort.
#3:
Bridgestone Blizzak LM25
With 5 points total. Good results on in all conditions but snow where it was mediocre.
#4:
Pirelli W210 Sottozero
With 5 points total. Good results on snow, but poor on ice.

#15 (and last): Nokian WR
With 2 points total. Good results in wet, but poor on dry road and ice. Awful on snow, lowest score possible.
Even some "no-name" tires like Hankook and Semperit beat the WR, and this is the 2nd or 3rd test I've read with the same poor performance of the Nokian WR. Why is it so popular with you guys?
Below is a link to a PDF with a short resumé of the test. It's in danish, but the test was performed by the German Auto owners association. Scroll down to the last page for the results.
As for summer tires, IMO the best all round max performance tire is the Goodyear F1 GS-D3's as it has excellent performance in both wet and dry conditions.
