Huh...guess one does learn something new everyday :)
Never knew about the fued between them both. But I'm going from personal experience. The V1 I had was bought brand new in 2002 and it was just OK. Annoying more than anything with false alerts and catching LIDAR at the last second. I put the V1 plugged in and the S2 running on batteries at the exact same time. The S2 picked up radar constantly and consistently well before the V1 did. Tested in areas where there were road side speed warnings. Also moved them both around to different spots of the windshield and visor...still the S2 was much better, and it is essentially the same thing as the X50...just cordless.
If you look at all of the reviews on radartest.com, it's not like Escort ranked top in every unit either. In fact, the old Solo was pretty much horrible. Also, they did rank the BEL better than others in certain areas. So it doesn't seem like he's 100% bias to Escort by any means.
Either way, the V1 is clunky and not reliable IMHO. I really like the option of having a cordless unit too that can easily be moved from one vehicle to another w/o having to use some horrible wound cord going from the windshield, over the dash and down to the power adapter.
