The linked filter has been reported as fitting.
A bigger filter will have more capacity for solids, but if the normal size filter is not been challenged in that regard, what is the point? That would not improve anything. You might be better off getting a filter that is more effective with small particles and then if you can then get a larger one that fits that costs the same as the normal size, that would be good. The PureOne filters are going to cost more in any case.
I have opened up a few filters that have been running M1 0W40 or M1 5W40 and seen hardly anything in them. So I think that when the engine has the right oil and nothing is seriously already wrong, the filter media capacity is not an issue. The amount of media can influence the amount of pressure drop across the filter when the engine is cold. But with a [0|5]W40 oil, the filter's internal pressure relief valve may never need to open.
Perhaps filter media amount is an issue when running 15K oil changes, but that is something that I do not have experience with.
When oil sludging occurs, the end game seems to be a lack of oil getting thru the oil pickup screen. At that point someone could open up the oil filter and see if it appeares to be challenged. That is something that we just don't know.
