I put a new cap on the resevoir, and now that california is starting to get a bit hotter, my car overheated in the normal traffic of suburbia. the coolant is definitely boiling. My temp guage must be broken bc it is exactly mid temperature, and nowhere near the red.
Where is the engine temperature guage for a 1999 Saab 9-5 SE, 2.3 L car? I asked the mechanic who holds him out to be among ohter things, a saab specialist. he said it is "probably" next to the engine block. "probably" ... you would think this is nearly as simple a question as asking a doctor which side of the stomach is the appendix. is it on the block or in a coolant hose, i ask the experts out there please.
Also, could my water pump be broken if it is not leaking? It doesnt leak, but the mechanic is saying the pump may have a plastic impeller which may erode or decompose after use, or may have play which compromised the pumping pressure it can create. "may be plastic" ... again, does anyone know if the stock saab water pump impeller is metal or plastic? can a water pump really go bad if it doesnt leak?
Give me your thoughts about the fans. I have a feeling the fans may not be on all the time. when i turned on the ac the engine did cool some bc i am told the ac actuates fans.
Also, the oil is not milky so there is no coolant going into the oil.
plse your thoughts? thank you.
