Yea, 17's won't degrade the ride.... Stephen Goldberger is right, not much difference to be noticed when driving a 2001 stick vs a 2005, the biggest change was the auto box. The steering will feel different, subtly, but it's tough to tell 'em apart. The '02 will have the lightwood dash vs the dark burled walnut of the '01, most like the '01 dash much better. And the '02 has the new nose, headlights with lexan covers instead of glass and the different shape of the tail light colors, no biggee.
The 9-5's have much better suspension and switching to 17's won't have near as much effect on the ride as in a OG9-3, as even the Aeros with 17's and sport suspension ride better than an OG9-3 with 16's, IMO.
