First, I would advise you to change your sparkplugs. I replace my plugs every 10,000 miles for a variety of reasons; they are inexpensive, easy to change, they actually provide a portion of the engine parameters input to the DI, and are prone to the gap widening over time.
Second, the software upgrade is important. Having this done could provide a real benefit. The Pros on this board lament that too many of us D-I-Y owners are swapping out our DIC's (after failure and pre-emptively) without having this software upgrade done. The end result is a reduction in data tha Saab will have availalbe to their engineers to develop a more robust system.
I guess a good scenario would be to do the plugs now and see if that eliminates the problem. If not, have the diagnostics done by your Dealer and get the software. Use your own DIC if necessary since I am sure replacing it later from a discounter will be mush less expensive than having one installed from the Dealer's stockroom. If the plug replacement solves the problem, mention it during your 60,000 service call. The added cost ofr the software upgrade may not be much more at that time.
Best of luck.
