My 1998 V70 which we use as a general runabout now has 110,000 km. It has had 3 brake jobs with new rotors calipers twice, the whole dash had to be removed a few years ago when there was a fault with a ?condenser, which Volvo did actually state proactively was a defect and replaced at their expense. The manager whom I know personally (I had 4 volvos before all fantastic740/760s)says be careful as most of the Volvo models still have brake problems that need early replacement. The rubbers pieces around the doors are loose, outside trim on the doors is loose, the latch of the bonnet has been stuck countless times,p-lastics inside are less durable thgan SAAB, the car creaks squeaks, the stuff in the bonnet seems to hiss at idle . Yet the engine is a sweetheart and runs beautifully.
Now, My 2003 9-5 Aero had a "sticky " drivers door that was fixed twice, one worn swaybar link, THAT,S IT !, in 85,000 km. A month ago we replaced my wife,s 2001 9-5 LPT wgn at 140,000 km with relatively few faults. She has anew 2005 9-5 Aero wagon which is perfect so far at 5800km.,aside from one crooked piece of trim at the top right end of the windscreen. Its going tomorrow for the first "check up" service so it will be fixed. Am I happy, very much, even if I feel funnily the V70 engine runs smoother. The SAAB seats are incomparable, except for the Cadillac SRX and new STS I sat in 2 months ago and the Volvo XC90. I didnt try the MB E 320 seats though therein is another reliability nightmare.

My longwinded but experienced 2 cents worth
