Back to long serpentine belt setup

Last month my Saabtech replaced the tensioner when it started to fail and I had him replace the serpentine belt pulleys at the same time (63K). He replaced the belt with SAAB's the new short belt setup for the 2.3 engine. From the beginning the new tensioner vibrated at idle, especially with the A/C on, and when turning the steering wheel at slow speeds. The tensioner would also vibrate when I was at a stoplight. Basically the belt was slipping at the PS pulley and the A/C pulley because under the new setup there is less pully area under the belt.
When I decided that I could not live with the noise and vibration anymore, my tech changed out the middle pulley (that is bypassed by the new setup) and went to an aftermarket belt (size 6PK-2612) since SAAB no longer carries the original serpentine belt. Now the noise is gone and there is no slippage. With the "old" setup you need to replace the middle pulley but at least there is no vibration and slippage.
And, when I had the new belt installed I also had to replace the water pump which had started to leak sometime after the short belt was installed a month ago...
