'99 9-5SE w/90K

Last weekend I drove much more agressively than normal since I had some wide-open back roads for once, but the next morning a new noise appeared (don't know if it's a conincidence).

Basically, everything's normal until I need to accelerate. At a certain point a hissing/high pitched grinding noise comes out of the engine compartment towards the drivers side. If I press harder on the gas it goes away. It's only a specific band of acceleration that it occurs in. It seems to be more noticeable when the car is cold, but it doesn't completely go away when it warms up.

I took it to my indie but of course I couldn't make the noise happen when I took him out in the car (car was warm and there was a lot of loud traffic). A known issue with the car is a bad idler pulley on the serpentine belt. The belt was replaced ~10k ago, but it's been rattling quite a bit when the steering wheel it turned all the way at very low speeds.

Any ideas? I would really appreciate any suggestions.
