No it was no significant changes to the engine design in 04 but Saab went to a 15,000! mile interval between oil changes in the 9-5. That's why they stepped up the lowest requirement in oil quality.

No, it's no harm in using M1 0W-40 in a 2002. It will cost more for each oil chnage so you need to figure out if it is worth it for your type of driving.

The hoily war have been raging back and forth on this board for a long time so you will find lots of information by using the search box.
