hard code vs. soft code vs. no code

Since early June, I've had an intermittent problem in my 2003 9-5 Linear with the following 4 lights occasionally illuminated on the dash: Anti-lock brake warning, traction control/electronic stability program OFF, central warning light and brake warning light.
When I bring it in for service, the dealer cannot find a code in the system to tell what is wrong. Today, I drove the car to the dealer with the lights on, and the computer produced a code that indicated that the left side wheel hub sensor was bad. It will be replaced next week. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
Is there any way to preserve codes for problems other than driving the car to the dealer with the warning lights on?
