High octane gasoline can never hurt the car. Many cars will not be able to take the advantage of higher octane gas as they would need dynamic ignition timing. Saab does have that and so can take advantage of higher octane gas. But even cars that are programmed for low octane gas that thus cannot reap performance benefits from higher octane gas generally benefit from higher octane gas because it's cleaner and better quality. Usually they get better mileage.
