Considering 9-5 Purchase - few Qs

Greetings,
I'm considering an '02 9-5 Aero Wagon (5 speed) as a replacement for our '99 VW Passat. I've been surfing around here for a couple of days now and have learned a ton, but I do have a couple of questions.
It sounds like some key improvements were made to the car in '02, including better reliability (according to CR) - is this accurate? What should I look out for when test driving, other than the IDM issues?
Speaking of IDM, what do I need to know about this issue? It looks like '02s are part of the recall - does it cover all '02s?. Does the new part fix the problem for good? How will I know if it's been fixed on the prospective car?
I've seen a couple of '02 5 speed Aero Wagons (non-CPO) for sale in my area with 30 to 50k on them going for $17.9k to 19.9k. Is this indicative of market pricing or unusual?
Thanks in advance - I'm looking forward to joining the community!
