I've liked Saabs since my dad had a 99 when I was a youngin' so I guess I'm pre-disposed!
I'm well aware of the VW quality issues, though I must say, our '99 1.8T sedan (112k!)has been great in the reliability dept. Not the cheapest car to keep on the road, but it's never left me stranded or failed to start <sound of knocking on wood>. I would actually buy another (wagon) but I've grown fond of the upgraded suspension I installed a year ago and don't want to go back to the pitch and roll of the stock setup.
I know one tends to get a "non-representative sample" here, but the IDM issue is widespread enough to warrant a recall so I just want to minimize my chances of getting bitten. Also, the mode of failure (i.e. instant dead car while moving) makes it a serious issue, even if it doesn't afflict a huge number of cars.
It looks like my budget of ~$18k should get me into a nice 5 speed Aero but not necessarily a CPO example.
Hmmm, I see you are in SD. Doesn't the Pacific Coast Highway connect you to me?;-)
