I would say that 35k miles is the end of the line for 9-5 rear shocks. I replaced the rears on my 99 sedan as it didn't feel good. Used Bistein HDs and what an improvement. I replaced them as I was going to be pulling a 2,000lb trailer 4-5k miles a year. It certainly made a big difference with that. The front struts are still original but showing some signs of needing replacement. Will probably use OEMs as they have been good. It may be that if the rear dampers are not properly designed then the springs are over heating due to this causing metal fatigue. Hope you get to the root of the proble.
