I had the same problem with my MY99 9-5SW, 2.3lpt engine. The issue is impossible to diagnose in the shop! However, I had purchased a sensor, and got my mechanic to drop it in. No more problems starting. I agree with Les on this one.
Don`t forget to check the battery, especially if the lights have been staying on.
Some of us have an ignition switch spring that sticks, so that when you take the key out, the car thinks it is still in. Search the board - the fix was to spray some WD40 around the keyhole to loosen up the spring.
The switch he mentions is in the center top between the visors. If it is in the wrong position, the lights stay on in the front and back seats. The other two positions are lights on when the doors open, and puddle lights only (in the doors) when you open the doors.
Hope that helps. Peace of mind is hard to come by with a SAAB, but believe me, if it is a problem, someone on this board will have posted something on it. Better than a dealer!
