Yeah, but not in a lie-to-your-face fashion. They're probably doing things 'by the book' but their book is written to screw you. At $145, that smacks of two hours...a minimum hour for 'diagnosis', and a minimum hour for 'replacement/programming'. They're looking at service as a profit center. This is why I DIY.

Not all dealers are the same. It gets worse than your example. It's not Saab, but The VW dealer in my hometown chops all the service intervals in half and tells their customers that their warranties will be void if they aren't following it. (Yes, 30K drive belt changes, 15K coolant, it's insane.) They overcharge on labor and if questioned, they complain that you're cutting their profit margin. In those words.

They actually have the gall to sell a 'service package' which is the first 60K worth of inflated service pre-paid at a 5% discount -- only good at that dealer.

A few towns over, they're fine with explaining to you what the 'minimum' is, will waive the diagnostic fee (unless it's one of the rare problems that takes more than 10 minutes to discover), charge reasonable labor and don't lie to you.

Best thing you can do is find a good independent who will be pretty honest with you. It's hard to do, and you may not save tons of money, but you don't end up feeling screwed every time you drive away.
