I got the same problem and did alot of research on it, that I'll save you the trouble of finding now.
First thing first, to determine if its code 08 or not, turn your car on, and push and hold the auto and off button at the same. You'll know its running beacuse the screen will light up, and after htis 30 second test, it will give you a number on the left hand side of the screen.
Now if this number says code 08 (which I believe it probably will), there are 3 possible causes of it
"the little $17 piece of white plastic (stop lever) could be broken as you mentioned - easy to replace yourself with a little time.
- The stepping motor may not be functioning - either the motor is broken ($164 for a new motor from stealers) or, as you mentioned, the motor gear may have slipped out of position - easy 15 min DIY fix.
- Lastly, the code is intended to indicate that the little $24 piece of yellow plastic (blend door shaft) is broken. This is the problem that Saab wants $2000 to repair by ripping your entire car into pieces to replace the piece which may break again in the future or you can DIY with the aluminum kit and about an hour of your own time." robw
I had the third problem the one that most people get. And i brought it to my local used saab mechanic (MAKE SURE YOU TRUST YOUR MECHANIC). And he fixed hte problem for $550.
My best advice, is don't try to fix it or discover what the problem is yourself without first brining it to a mechanic you trust to determine whats causing this dreaded code 08.
Hope I helped, good luck and keep us informed
