I run 15-inch steelies on my 2000lpt, but if I had to do it all over again I would buy a set of used 15-inch alloy wheels. The cost of 4 steel rims and 4 wheel covers is more than the cost of a set of used 15-inch Saab alloys.
With an Aero you have to use 16-inch rims. There have been recent postings of 16-inch steel rims not fitting properly, plus you will have the same cost issue I encountered. Look for a set of used 16-inch Saab/Saturn alloys on the internet auction sites. There always seems to be a bunch of them being offered.
As for tires; my first set of winter tires were Nokian Hakka Q's, my current set is Semperit Sport-Grips, my next set will probably be Nokians again. The Goodyear Ultra-grip is the tire offered by Saab and it is said to be very good. A lot of folks love Blizzaks, although they are rumored to wear very fast. There is a wide array of capable winter tires on the market now, a big change from only a few years ago.
