The sludge problem is a very minority problem. Every Saab problem is tremendously exagerated on these bulletin boards. 15k is perfectly fine oil change interval for "normal" service. I've included a link to the Road & Track article on "Those long oil changes".
If the vehicles was used in a "severe" environment or meets the severe service qualifications, I'll let you wrestle with sorting those definitions out, then likely a 15k first oil change is still fine and you can begin a severe service oil change and service interval.
Yes Saab has rectified the problem, the new '06 service interval is 10k or 1 year.
