One thing that I have personally found annoying about the dealers and Saab is that there is no basis for much of what they say. If Saab didn’t have some sort of design problem then the 10K interval would probably have been fine. If Saab didn’t specify semi-synthetic oil, the 10K would have been fine. The severe service argument seems like junk to me. Probably 99% of cars in the US are in severe service at least some of the time. The 2000 mile window…how did Saab validate that one? What is the point of all of this? Saab crafted an extended warranty that got them off the hook, but didn’t really require them to fix too many broken cars. This might be good for the company bottom line in the short term, but is terrible for long term customer satisfaction. This is typical corporate policy without much technical facts backing things up. No matter what Saab says, I can’t imagine that 2000, 2211, or even 5211 miles can wreck a properly designed engine.
