Eric,
My concern with the soft top was with exposure to sun and weather. Over time, the soft top started to develop small holes in the fabric that had me starting to worry about possible water leaks even though I garaged or covered it at work or home all the time. Didn't have any but I when I priced a replacement top, it's about a couple thousand dollars. Considering how much I babied the soft top from sun and the weather, I didn't expect the soft top to be so fragile. What I did have was failure of the hydraulic rods that lift and retract the soft top as well as hydraulic oil leaks. It cost me several hundreds of dollars to fix each time (happened twice) over two years of ownership. Sold it for the current 5-5 Aero wagon before having to replace the top in the 9-3. Been happy ever since. No problems to speak of and more comfortable and quiet.
