You have definately been ripped-off.
1) There is no reason you have to use a SAAB dealer for interim service - the 1k, 10k, 20k, and 30K services are included with the original car purchase, and those are the only services you 'need' to have done by a SAAB dealer (if you want to get them done without spending any more money). You can have 5k interim oil changes performed by anyone or do them yourself or not even do them at all unless you want to since they are not even called for under SAAB's maintenance schedule.
2) If you do go to a SAAB dealer for an interim 5k service, you should pay no more than their normal charge for an oil change and this should be posted on their wall - usually about $30 at most SAAB dealers from what I can tell.
3) Just because you bought the car there doesn't mean you have to have it serviced there. There is no reason you have to have ANY service done by the dealer who sold you the car. You can use any SAAB dealer to do the included 'free' or prepaid services or warrantee claim services.
4) You have found out that the dealer you just used is not to be trusted. I suggest, if possible, that you never take your car back to them for any reason whatsoever. If you have any other SAAB dealer within 50 miles of where you live or work use them instead.
5) You might post the dealer's name on this web site to warn off others.
