From reading this BB and personal experience with 9k and 9-5:
"no start" is not usually a faulty IDM (DI Cassette) symptom, unless the car died when driving and then won't restart. If the IDM is dying, there are two general symptoms:
* car dies abruptly (say, on the highway) and won't restart, accompanied by burning electric smell & possibly smoke from IDM. (most common on 9-5)
* engine starts missing/running rough, first under load, then over more operating conditions, until finally it won't even idle (rare on 9-5, but this was the way 9000 DI cassettes usually died)
Crank sensor symptom - engine will spin when starter is engaged, but will not run when attempting a hot start. Let it cool off, and then it starts. CPS is a $40 part and about an hour labour to replace.
Loose battery cable at starter - engine does not spin when key turned to START, but all interior lights/gauges work normally. Problem can come/go for awhile. 15 minutes under the car can fix this one.
