Did they say if they used full synthetic? A full synthetic 5W-30 is ok, but yes the 0W-40 or 5W-40 would be better. There's a lot of language in the owner's manaul that indicates the xW-40 full synthetics are preferred.
If they used a conventional or semi-synthetic, start going elsewhere. Why? Here's the language from the engine sludge extended warranty letter Saab sent out last year:
"... there are some steps you can take to help ensure trouble-free operation. Saab recommends using a full synthetic oil and considering if your driving conditions require more frequent maintenance." I suppose we could parse words and say that full synthetic is only a recommendation, not a requirement.
And FWIW, recommendations for the V6 engine aren't really applicable to the 4. They're completely different.
