Good trick. My tailgate/trunk lock on my 1999 9-5 wagon locked automatically while the trunk lid/tailgate was in the open position. I closed the tailgate w/o noticing the lock was in the close/latch position and jammed it even more closed. Your suggestion about holding the opening latch on the outside of the door while similtaneously manually pulling down the lock allowed me to manually pull down the lock mechanism into its normal open position. Then when I closed the door it latched properly. I was then able to use the remote key to lock and unlock the mechanism as usual. Sadly though my sensor light still shows the latch to be open even when it's closed. At least my car is secure again. Thank god for the saabnet. David vs Goliath. David stands a chance.
