Huge devaluation is the only reason I'm in a Saab - it was by far the best car available at the money. From almost $85k to $22k in a bit over 4 years. (Aussie dollars)
For what it's worth, a mate is looking at picking up an S430 Merc of a similar year to my Saab, in percentage terms it should be only a slightly lower depreciation than my Saab!
When I was shopping, I also had a few Japanese cars (Mazda 6, Honda Accord Euro, maybe a Subaru Liberty) on the list. All held their value far better than the Saab and were basically out of my price range!
Swings and roundabouts - don't complain about losing money when it's the big depreciation that allowed you to buy it for $10k in the first place.
Throw into the equation the mania over fuel prices lately, people are falling over themselves to get out of thirsty cars into smaller ones, losing thousands in the process of saving hundreds on fuel bills.
Cheers
Steve
