So I was driving back from work and about to make a left hand turn on a three lane road (two left, one right). All of the sudden, some young kid in an Acura comes across from the right lane and pulls hard to the left. I sound my horn, but its too late. My baby got hit.
The damage was minimal. The front bumper traded some paint, the fender liner got cracked, and the wheel got some rim damage. The insurance company calls me up and asks me where I would like to take the car. I purchased the car at VOB Saab, so I figure, that would be the best place to get the repair work done. They could get the parts faster, and as a former customer, they would treat my car right. That was my first mistake.
I dropped the car off, and it took about a week to fix. This irritated the insurance company, because they were expecting 3 days, but I was happy to finally get my car back (I missed her so). So I pick up my car and start home. I look in the change holder and notice that my quarters are gone! They stole $1 from me!. I hit the eject button on my CD player, and no CD comes out. They stole a CD from me too! Now, the money and CD being gone weren't an issue (I have heard much worse before). It was the fact that someone stole from me that really pissed me off.
So I call up the guy I was working with, and tell him that I had money and a CD stolen from me, and that when I get home I will go over ever inch of my car to find out what was wrong. I then inform him that I will want them to pay for another shop to complete the work, since I no longer trust them to do the work. He says that he will gladdly look at the car and work things out, but he won't pay for another shop to work on the car.
I get home, and sure enough, everything is wrong. The paint has dust bubbles, the fender liner was glued back together, the wheel looks like crap, and there are now new scratches on the other side of the car. The next day, I call up the manager, and he doesn't want to pay for another shop to do the work either. So I get the number of the regional manager (from my dealer), and give him all call. I left him a message saying that I would be calling my lawyer and then the police to report the theft.
Gave my laywer a call, and he said that as long as they offered to fix the problem, the best thing to do is to let them fix it. Not the answer I wanted, but I'm paying to retain him, so I take the advice. I call back the manager and arrange to have the car repaired. The regional manager calls back, and I explain to him the situation that I'm pissed about what has happened to me and my car, and that I expect better next time.
I had the wheel repaired separately, so at least I wouldn't have to leave my car over the week it took to get the wheel redone. I picked it up last week, and it honestly looks great. Don't know what retard did the work the first time, but they got it right the second time.
This morning, I dropped off the car to have the paint fixed, the scratches painted, and the fender liner replaced. Now, we have gotten many inches of rain the past 48 hours, and its not going to stop for a week. Flash flooding everywhere. Not the best time to check out the new repairs.
So I pick up the car, and start my drive home. As soon as I hit 20mph, I hear a thump. I speed up and the thump gets louder. I have wheel knock!. All they had to do is remove the wheel, replace the liner, and put the wheel back on - but they somehow managed to F that up too! And I'm scared to even look at the paint.
So I call back the shop, and he tells me to check the lugs to make sure they are tight. He explains that it has never happened before, but to check them none-the-less and give him a call in the morning. All the lugs are tight. So I back them off and retorque them with my torque wrench. I go out for a drive, and there is still a knock. I'm about to put my hand threw the windshield, but I don't want to hurt my baby.
I call back the shop - they're gone for the day. I have the shop and the general manager on speed dial (I knew I did that for a reason) and give the general manager a call. I explain to him who I am and remind him of the last call he received from me. I tell him that I'm not really disappointed, because this was the quality of work I was expecting. He wants me to bring it back in the morning, but I explain to him that he opens when I have to be at work - an hour a way. So he gets the manager to come in way early to take the car from me.
So that's where I'm at. I'm drinking heavily because I have so much crap to deal with, and this really doesn't help the situation any. The car is going back for the third time tomorrow. I really hope they didn't screw up my suspension, because I'm moving Thursday, and they will be an hour away.
Don't make the same mistake I did. Stay away from VOB Auto Body, or even better, just stay away from VOB all together!
