And I think many owners here will back me up when I say that.

First of all, you purchased your car though a private sale, but you fail to mention having a pre-purchase inspection done by a qualified and knowledgable Saab dealer or indy mechanic. Any mechanic that deals with Saabs would have been able to alert you that the motor mounts were going to need to be replaced, as well as the other items you mentioned. Had you researched, the SID is easily repaired at home with a soldering iron, or even a pen, saving you the time of having it in for service.

A "semi-comprehensive" service history is basically as good as having no service history...If it's not complete, what's the point? It's obvious the PO of your car didn't take care of it properly.

As for the oil, many Euro cars require special oils, your Saab is certainly not to blame for this. And a 4 cylinder engine will never be as smooth as a 6 or 8 when shifting.

You may be a "car nut", but you're certainly not a "Saab nut". If you were, you would have overlooked the negatives for the many positive aspects of the car. I'm sure you would be better off in a very reliable, but boring, Japanese car.

Cris, just because lightreader had one bad experience with a car should not put you off from buying a Saab. Instead, remember that this is a problem solving forum, where people come to ask questions about problems. Not many will come here simply to post just how good their car drove today. I'm sure you'll get some responses that talk you into the purchase of this car. But PLEASE get it looked at before you buy it!! Good luck!
