For two years I looked at the toothless grin of my SID before gaining the courage to attempt repairing it. Why did I wait? The unit was easily pryed from the dash with the help of a sharp chisel. Mine loosened first on the left side, then the right side snapped out. No marks on the dash, no need to remove the radio. The main connector has a hook and clip fastener. The whole assy. is well made and has a quality look. Remove four shiny screws, and the cct. board and display slides out of the housing. Two more small shiny screws releases the cct. brd. Caution: I do not know if the cct. brd. has any static sensitive components, so I was careful not to touch the board without grounding myself. The display is held by four plastic snap clips. This reveals the flat connection cable. Using low heat on my soldering station, I dragged the soldering tip slowly over the connections two or three times. Do not allow the tip to remain stationary, or you might melt the cable. I suspect a low wattage hobby soldering iron would work just as well. Reassemble. The whole job took me about 30 minutes, and now that I know how to do it, 20 would be reasonable. Display now perfect.
