It's sorta' an oxymoron, to have a BMW, Benz, or Saab on a "budget"? But if you must, and many including me do, then a 9-5 is an excellent choice for reliability and service expense versus any other highline car in it's class. Equivalant or lessor 5 series and E class sedans and wagons are far pricier for purchase as well as service and no more durable or reliable, IMHO.
Subaru makes a strong lineup of sport wagons, sorta' in line with the different/unique/non-mainstream theme like a Saab, but even nice Suby's aren't highline cars to me.
