This is a system that is not included under the mandated OBD2 rules and therefore only proprietary scan tools can read the codes.
No, I don't know the cut off for sealed alarm box but a guess
The battery replacement only make sense if a person can do it themself. If you have to pay a shop to do it it will come to close to the price of a new siren plus a shop would not give any guarantees on that type of repair.
It is a little bit like the heater box repair. The customer saves quite a bit of money if the linkage can be repaired but the shop should not be liable if the remains of the old shaft break at a later date (even though unlikely).
If we put new batteries in the alarm siren and then later, the siren decide to go bad in another way, who's to blame.
