I thought I'd quit lurking, thank you all for the excellent info here, and tell you how I got here.
Almost 4 years ago I bought a '00 9-5 SE sedan with ~43K miles and about 6 months left on the factory warranty. After decades of driving utilitarian vehicles, this is the first car I've owned that I actually LIKE! It is also one of the few cars I've driven that is equally comfortable for me (6'2", long legs and short torso) and my wife (5'5", short legs and long torso). The car is at 85K miles and going strong.
After 20 years of having one Dodge Caravan or another in the driveway, it became time to get something other than a minivan that still had some room inside for "stuff". As a result, last month I became owner of Saab #2 (it seems from reading this board that the purchase of a Saab leads either to owning zero Saabs or multiple Saabs) -- an '03 9-5 Arc wagon with ~30K miles on the clock and 7 months remaining on the factory warranty. I could have waited a year or so, but I really like the V-6 engine and I wanted to get a 9-5 with the V-6 that was still on factory warranty (hence the move now for the '03). In the near future, this car will get a trailer hitch so I can tow 1500 lb of trailer and sailboat (Thistle, for those who care) around the country.
In the course of researching the purchase of Saab #2 I found this site -- what a wealth of great and useful information! I'm sufficiently impressed that I decided to join the site and support it rather than just leech. I'm pretty confident I'll recoup the membership fee easily given the intrinsic expense of repairs. I wish I'd known about this place from the beginning of my Saab saga...
