I would replace the DI within 60k miles, preferably a bit sooner to be sure. And once you've had the software update, the computer usually tells you when the DI is about to die. With the benefit of hindsight, I noticed a very slight misfire when the engine was cold in the week or two before the DI failed. I am led to believe that with the current software the computer will sense this and throw a check engine light and error code for missing sparks.
But preventative maintenance is really the best solution, the new TK3.7 DI might last 150,000miles for all we know, but in any case you keep the old (functioning) one for a spare.
