I bought my '00 Aero SW 2 years ago with about 25,000 miles on the clock (now done about 40,000). I borrowed the car from the VW/Audi dealer (it was traded against an Audi) for the weekend, and by the end of the 2 days I was in love, and decided to buy it. The dealer, a friend, managed to organise a 3 year warranty with a 3rd party company, and boy am I glad she did. I've had a few problems (including engine and transmission mount replacements) which would have totalled about $3,000 AUD out of pocket if not for the warranty. I have the current "Service Theft Alarm" issue, a door trim that fell off last week, and she's starting to sound like a tractor when idling (I know she's 6 1/2, but she's only done 40,000 miles).
I still love the car, and think it's one of the best looking wagons around, but if I had the funds I would trade her on an Audi A6 SW or a VW Passat SW (and no, not because of my relationship with the local dealer). A new 9-5 Aero SW is about $85,000 compared to $57,000 for a Passat 3.2 4-Motion & $80,000 for an A6 2.0TFSI SW. BMW and Mercedes are too expensive, and unfortunately in Oz we don't have the breadth of choice you North Americans do.
So I still love driving her, and like the heated and cooled leather seats, and the abundant room, but I'm not keen to repeat the SAAB experience.
