I have my third battery in my 2000 9-5 and I think it is 18 months old already. Lots of on-board computers with their continuous power drain takes its toll.

Assuming the traditional car battery is designed for long term storage of power with random high spikes of power provided for engine starting. Marine batteries (trolling motor applications) are designed for continuous deep cycling of the charge. Maybe we need a different battery type, something designed for continuous shallow cycling.
