Bought a 19-1/2' power boat on a dual axle trailer this fall. The boat was agreat deal but I had to pick it up. So, bought a Drawtite hitch for my '01 Aero and drove the boat home. The trip was 85+ miles and was the first time in 30 years that I had pulled a trailer. Observations??
1) Trailer hitch on the Aero was much lower than the trailer - so took a little effort to manhandle the trailer down onto the hitch ball.
2) Weather during the trip was rainy and windy. The trailer would "Crab" a little bit from side to side but nothing un-nerving.
3) Gas mileage, which is normally in the high 20's ( I was getting 32 mpg on the way down) was only 18 mpg on the way home. Thought that it was the car, but after dropping the boat and trailer, mileage went back up to high 20s.
4) Aero's turbo 2.3 liter engine had plenty of power to pull the trailer, which prbably weighed in at 2,800 pounds. Braking was acceptable although it took a while to get used to the longer stopping distances. The surge brake didn't appear to have any effect on the combination - but then I don't know what the braking would have been like without it.
Any way,
Good luck and Happy Holidays,
