But consider yourself lucky, it died in your driveway on a day the auto parts stores are open.
I have had two dead batteries, one in the parking lot of a coffee shop I would frequent daily on my drive to work (the car worked fine for the 40 mile drive from my home to the shop), and the other in my driveway.
After 2-1/2 years all owners need to carefully listen for the sounds of a slowly cranking engine when starting. This can be the only warning sign of a battery nearing its life's end.
