It's all good and cool..... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Tue, 16 Jan 2007 10:51:05 In Reply to: Saab 95 wagon purchase, whitesaab, Sun, 14 Jan 2007 22:50:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
OK, maybe the 1999's, the first year for a 9-5 might be a skosh troublesome, but even the worst 9-5 is probably better than the best of other years of older Saabs. The horrible reputation of the V6 900's has been totally reversed for the 9-5 line. The V6 9-5 engine was resourced and improved and has virtually none of the older V6 issues and the common wisdom is the 9-5 V6 is as good or better reliability and problem wise than the fours. For example the V6 9-5s totally dodged the sludge issue.
There's no 9-5s to avoid, they're all good. Saab purists prefer the four cylinder turbos, but many folks love the smooth torquey V6 and the higher performance Aeros are all the HOT fours.
2002 was an MCE, mid cycle enahancement, with a slight restyle, 5 speed auto, and other touches like the avialibility of xenons, park assist and sport seats on the Aeros, but that doesn't take away from the lower price point of the 99-01 models, there was nothing that dramatically transformed a frog into a prince. They're all princes. In particular 9-5's have a darn decent reliability ratings from consumer publications, a rarity for Saab.
And a cool SportWagon is the ultimate hatchback, enjoy the hunt.
