It is all about the tires...it doesnt matter what car we are talking about...

Right now I have some Continental ContiExtreme Contact AS on and it gets around fine in the snow. I did have some Michelin Pilot MX on before, and they totally sucked in the snow. I just put it in Winter and go...

BTW, just to explain how things work (maybe you already know), but if you were in Winter & had TCS on, then you shouldnt be burning up the tires. The TCS cuts back the drive-by-wire throttle when it detects wheel spin. It will spin a little, but not like a car without TCS. Winter mode starts the car out in 3rd gear so that you are not applying as much torque to the wheels (and thus help to minimize slipping). If you are going up hill with both turned on and the wheels are slipping alot, then you will get a condition where your foot has the gas pedal all the way to the floor, but the throttle is actually being closed by the computer (only open to the point at which the wheels start to slip).

Good AS tires, or even better, winter tires, will solve nearly all the problems you are having and you will get around almost as good as those who spent a pile of money on their AWD SUVs...
