Thanks for the replies! I went back to the dealer today and the smell of gas wasn't anywhere as strong as last night. Dealer said the tech might of spilled some gas on the carpet because the tank was full. hmmm ya think?
So they "cleaned" the carpet and put the fuel pump access panel on right, this morning when I checked it was just sitting on top of the hole.
So of course with the smell of the carpet cleaner masking the gas smell, they said I was all set. As I'm sure you know, now that the cleaner smell is wearing off, the gas smell is coming back. I'll give it another day and see how it is then.
I understand mistakes happen, but the car should never have been allowed to leave(and I should have never taken it!)smelling like that. You would also think they would apologize for the waste of my time and inconvenience of driving a half hour each way, but, no.
But to be fair to the dealership, they are the ones who found other repairs that needed to be done under warranty without me asking, such as replace idler pully, retorque head bolts, oil pump and timing cover seals, replace 2 airbox mounts, flush trans and update trionic, replace soft pcv hoses and grommets, replace peeling hood emblem. Because of front end noises I complained about, that new sway bar links didn't fix last time, they also replaced the strut bearings and plates with/alignment, and replaced the ps pump due to it leaking. Not to mention the fuel pump. Seems like a lot of things to go wrong at 39k. I might have to sell it before the warranty expires.
I bought the car when my lease expired and I'm glad I paid the extra for the cpo. It paid for itself this time!
Sorry for the long rant.
