I'm late in reading this, but I'll put in my 2 cents on tranny.
Been a manual driver since acquiring my license. Still am. Manuals are hard to come by and so I was ready to sucombe and go with the an auto. The sport mode is truely fantastic. The manual mode...eeeh...was disappointed and found a it hard to get used to. Granted that was a test drive only. Never got to know it. I test drove 2 04 Aeros back to back. 1 auto, 1 manual. I left with the manual and have been very happy ever since. 1st is not so great. 2nd is okay to good, 3rd...hang on! Launch is the only word that works. 25 to....in 10 sec. or less. I hit it once in 2nd on a straight away and felt a skipping and jumping and immediately backed off. I thought it was the engine skipping...turned out it was the wheels skipping/losing traction on the pavement. I noticed the TCS light flickering just as I let off. That was dry wheels on dry pavement.
Well, you can see I'm biased on the manual side...but admittedly, if an auto was all I could find...I would still be happy. The Aero is the way to go!
