I've had two 9000s ('87 N/A and a 94CSE auto) and a NG900. I drove my 94 9000CSE for over two years until she finally gave up in January. That CSE has been my favorite Saab so far. I'm not usually an automatic guy, but I loved the "point and shoot" feeling of the car, just hammer down and keep the steering wheel centered! I just bought an '02 9-5 Aero M5 (my dream car) and so far I'm quite impressed. It took me a few days to figure out how to "launch" the car to my liking (and make the off the line accel feel like my last 9000), but once I got the RPMs/clutch action right, it feels like a rocket. Anything above 2nd gear doesn't have that "pull your head back into the seat" feel that my NG900T and my 9000CSE gave, but the speedometer sure tells otherwise.
I've barely logged 750 miles on the new Aero, but so far I'm smitten. Its just about the sexiest car I've ever seen (jet black with dark tinted windows, and the Xenons which I love so bad!). The seats are by far the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in (you sink into them and your day melts away), and the interior design is a nice upgrade from my 80s looking 9000CSE I had for so long. The car begs me to take it on the freeway, it really shines there.
I had a fear that the "sport tuned" lowered/stiffened Aero suspension would give a rough ride, but on the contrary, it is the smoothest Saab I've ever driven (even smoother than my Mom's OG9-3, which feels like a cloud). Even taking turns at high speed the Aero feels like a slot car, where as my 9000s and NG900s had quite a bit of lean and a feeling of being squashed up against the door.
The more I reflect on the first week with the new Aero, the more it becomes apparent that I made the right choice. And just think, I almost bought a Viggen :P *prepares for beatings by the viggen crowd*
