I don't know if the '02's and the '01's are the same - eeuroparts showed the same number for the hub bearings, but: I've had my '01 Aero for 3 years and its always made what I thought was a slipped belt noise from the front wheels. Finally, three weeks ago, the noise degenerated into a growling sound that made listening to the radio impossible at 50 mph. The noise deminished above that speed - but hey no news is good news, right??
Anyway, I purchased the bearings and circlips from eeuroparts.com for +/- $100 and pulled the two hubs last Monday morning. Probably took me all of 3 hours. Took the hubs to my local NAPA machine shop and they pressed out theold and in the new bearings for $46.00. Reinstalled the hubs this Saturday (1/2 day) and the car drives beautifully. No noise at all!! It is uncanny the difference.
But my point is that I asked the mechanic "How bad were the bearing that he took out?" He twirled the bearings in his fingers and commented that one was a little rough. I would think that I could have gone for a lot farther than I did without doing the bearings.
And by the way, the local Saab dealership wanted $500+/_ per wheel to do the job. So, I figure that I saved $800.
Good Luck,
