$4 bucks a gallon... Posted by Johnson [Email] (#3237) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Johnson) on Wed, 9 May 2007 10:07:00 In Reply to: Re: FlexiFuel..., LesH, Wed, 9 May 2007 07:52:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
To be even marginally profitable, whith out huge money coming from government (taxes out of our pocket) ethanol with current production processes, has to be sold at a minimum of 4 bucks a gallon. It is also does give significanly less mpg averages, while giving more power. so efficentcy is lost by about 25%, so to break even gas would have to be at least $5 a gallon at current prices for ethanol. So gas would have to go up signficantly for you to pay off an ecu upgrade of almost a 1000 dollars. Now if you were going to chip your car anyways, you might as well, because soon that is all there might be, but for right now it does not make sense in the long run to do it just for the e85 fuel. You would have to keep your car 5 more years or so to break even I think, if ethanol is even in your area. Now, I would upgrade my car to e85 I think if it was available here in az because it is at octane 106. I have run 101 on occasion when going out racing with my buddies, and man that is fun. I would love to have 106 pumping through my car's veins!
