An idea......or two..... If your car has 100K - 150K miles or more on the odometer....
While you're replacing the water pump and heater control valve you might think in terms of the cooling system versus a couple of parts. You could consider replacing....
- thermostat
- upper cooling system hose
- temperature sensor in the end of the head
- check/replace the hose in the intake system below the long plastic pipe connected to the throttle body. They rot through; you'll need a good light to see.
- serpentine belt and all pulleys if due or if condition mandates. Pulleys typically do not make a loud announcement when they are getting close to disintegrating. They come apart and then the serpentine beltceases to drive the water pump, alternator, A/C compressor and power steering pump.
- voltage regulator...if it's never been done AND you have 125K o more miles you may not have to wait too long for the alternator light to start flickering and come on.
Every one of the items I've referred to above are candidates for failure based upon age and miles....that might be inferred by your curent maintenance including the installation of the PCV kit, a fuel pump, a cabin ventilation fan, a water pump and a heater control valve. This suggests that these other items are in your future.
