Seatback sounds too far forward or seat cushion tilted too much perhaps. Also try lowering head rest as far as it is inteded to normally go too perhaps (it is not the case that it is "totally unadjustable").
You don't mention if your wife is particularly short or something but seems to me like most anyone should be able to get seated well in the car. Just get the seatback and cushion tilt properly adjusted.
BTW - The head rest will go lower than you might think. I would not recommend doing this with an occupant as I'd be afraid it would interfer with the active head protection. However, it will go down beyond the normal intended point. Push in the regular release and the flat plastic in the same position as the regular release on the other post. This will drop the head rest a good 2 to 3 inches I'd guess beyond the normal point. Again I personally would NOT put the head rest in this postion with an occupant in the seat. However, I sometimes keep my passenger head rest in this position when driving alone to improve visbility out right rear window. I also keep the seatback tilled forward in what would be an unconfortable position as a reminder to adjust the head rest for passengers back to the normal range.
